Its popularity helped the series to be renewed for subsequent seasons.
Castle managed to last for eight seasons. On April 2016, a joint announcement from ABC and ABC Productions was made stating Stana Katic and Tamala Jones would not be back for a Season 9 of the series, in the event it was ever renewed. The show would be canceled on May 12th,, 2016 and the series finale aired on May 16th that same year.Review:
Castle is a new take on the crime drama series. As opposed to just using actors to star as cops on the center stage, the series takes the genre in a new direction where the protagonists aren’t necessarily tough. Richard Castle’s character is resilient, intelligent, creative, and charming. He is also the complete opposite of your traditional author, where they’re normally thought of as the quiet types who sit behind their desks and write for days on end.
That’s not the case for this guy. Suffering from a severe case of writers block, he looks to outside influences for inspiration in his future works. After a murder is imitated from one of the plots of his novels, he gets called in to assist the NYPD as a consultant of sorts. There he crosses paths with Detective Kate Beckett, of which they share an on-off romantic connection. The on-screen chemistry between Fillion and Katic’s characters is nothing short of amazing. Every time the two go on cases together, he’s forced to wear a bulletproof vest with the word ‘Writer’ emboldened on it. It makes him a very obvious target for the criminal element, but he loves going on cases anyway.
In regards to Nathan Fillion, he manages to deliver the same wit and charm that goes as far back as his days in Firefly. While it has the atmosphere of a police procedural, the show has does of comedy sprinkled here and there. Fillion’s character has numerous quips and one liners that makes him very likable. One would have to wonder why he didn’t take up to the stage as a comedian instead.
This is a show that I would recommend watching if you like comedy mixed in with police drama.Trivia:
